Mouth
When: Saturday 6/4 @ 8:00pm - 9:30
Where: Satellite Stage
Formed in Kansas City in late 2008 by guitarist Jeremy Anderson, bassist Zach Rizer and drummer Stephen Gunn, Mouth writes and performs instrumental "cyberfunk" music: bass-heavy, futuristic funk grooves that combine the rhythms of funk, disco, house, electronica, hip hop and dubstep with the unpredictable improvisational approach of a jam band and the face-melting instrumental technique of progressive rock and jazz fusion.
The unique challenge of creating dance music that still allows for improvisation and complex instrumental passages is what drew the trio together. Jumping unpredictably from genre to genre requires not only technical proficiency on their instruments but also an approach to composition and improvisation that is in many ways more akin to that of a DJ than to a traditional jam band.
Mouth spent months studying, practicing and experimenting with dance music styles from around the world before making their live debut in January of 2009. Funk, disco, house, reggae, dub, hip hop, electronica, dubstep... no dance style is off limits. With an array of gear and effects, MIDI-synchronized loops and other sonic tricks, Mouth has been able to create an assortment of textures that usually cannot be produced by guitar, bass and drums. The group will often create 'walls of sound' live that leave the listener questioning how a 3-piece band can create such dynamic and big music.
Sound engineer Dan Gable joined forces with the band early on and has made high-quality recordings of over 50 shows. Many of these recordings have been made available for free download on the band's website.
Having quickly established a name for themselves in their hometown with their exhilarating live shows, Mouth is blowing up the midwest by touring and playing as much as physically possible.
